Budget Beauty: Make Your Own DIY Cucumber Face Masks!

The cooling properties, along with powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory elements in the water rich humble cucumber can help to rejuvenate your skin, leaving your face smooth and hydrated. It's the perfect face mask ingredient for the summer months to help you maintain a fresh and healthy glow.

If you're looking to save a few pennies this summer, why not make your own all-natural face mask? The following homemade face masks are quick, easy and cheap to make and will work a treat on sunburned skin. Also perfect for a pamper party!

Lets start with a basic plain cucumber face mask that should help to reduce puffiness, redness and inflammation. It's perfect for hydrating the skin and a real bargain to make.

Basic Cucumber Face Mask

The yogurt will promote exfoliation (also great for sunburn relief), while the cucumber will help cool the skin. This mask is great for those who suffer from pimples and skin discolouration.

You will need:

1. Half a cucumber.
2. One table spoon of plain natural yogurt.

Really simple, peel the cucumber and then blend into a smooth paste with the plain yogurt then apply to your skin with clean hands and leave until dry (Approximately 15-25 minutes). Once the mask is dry, gently rinse off using warm water and then cold water to close the pores. Pat skin dry with a clean, soft towel.

Now for a cucumber and honey face mask, which will not only moisturise the skin, but help fight acne, clogged pores, blemishes, excess oil and inflammation.

Cucumber and Honey Face Mask:

Honey is an excellent choice of ingredient to help boost elasticity of your skin through its exfoliating properties. It promotes new tissue growth which will contribute to healthy, younger looking skin.

You will need:

1. Half a cucumber.
2. One table spoon of honey.

As with the 'Basic Cucumber Face Mask' method, peel the cucumber and then blend into a smooth pureed paste. Add one tablespoon of honey. Then, that's it! Simply apply to skin, leave for your chosen time (approximately 15 - 25 minutes), rinse off and pat skin dry.

Next is the cucumber, oatmeal and honey face mask. With the addition of oatmeal, this mask can leave the skin exfoliated helping with the removal of black heads and dead skin cells leading to a brighter complexion.

Cucumber, Oatmeal and Honey Face Mask:

This DIY face mask has the benefits of the 'Cucumber and Honey Face Mask' above, but with the added ingredient of oatmeal which works a treat if you have oily, acne prone skin.

The oatmeal will exfoliate you skin cells, soak up excess oils and remove dead skin cells from the surface. This is definitely one of my favourite DIY face masks!

You will need:

1. Half a cucumber.
2. One table spoon of honey.
3. One table spoon of ground oatmeal.

Take the half a peeled cucumber, blend it to a puree, add the table spoon of honey and oatmeal and mix together thoroughly in a small bowl. Apply to face with clean hands, leave until dry (approximately 15 - 25 minutes), rinse off then pat skin dry. Skin should be left feeling soft and moisturised.
